Yoshihito Nishioka v Lloyd Harris Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two players and Harris has won them both. They came in Cincinnati in 2021 and Miami in 2022.

Nishioka Avoids Embarrassment against Atmane

Nishioka’s recent form notwithstanding he was still a 1/2 favourite going up against Terence Atmane when they faced off in the first round. Less than half hour into the contest, Nishioka was looking for answers that looked like they did not exist.

He had been broken three times in a row to capitulate to a 6-0 loss in the opening set against a player who has never been ranked better than 149th in the world.

Fortunately for Nishioka, he was able to turn things around as he broke right back in the first game of the second set and then held on to his serve throughout. In the third, Nishioka was 2-0 up again and this time around, he added a second break of serve to clinch the win 0-6, 6-4, 6-2.

This was Nishioka’s second win from his previous nine matches though, an indicator of the kind of form he’s in at the moment. No surprises then that he starts a second favourite at 11/10 (with bet365) to grab a win here.

Harris Eases Past Vesely

Harris has had a roller-coaster of a last couple of years with injury issues making life difficult for him but he has shown a bit of what he’s capable of in recent times.

Like when he made the semifinal on the grass court of the Mallorca Open in June, or the second round of the US Open.

And now here in Zhuhai, Harris did not face a lot of issues when he took on Jiri Vesely in his opener. In a match that lasted a mere hour and 11 minutes, Harris won 6-4, 6-2 to reach the second round.

Making it even better is Harris’ clinical nature with the South African slamming 19 aces, breaking his opponent three times from the four opportunities he got and facing not a single break-point in the process.

Harris will now start off a favourite in the second round here as well as he takes on a struggling Nishioka. bet365 is offering 4/6 for his victory.

Nishioka v Harris Prediction and Tip

Harris holds the edge in this one and given the manner in which he clinched his opening win, his confidence was there for all to see. Expect him to come through.
