Dan Evans v Roman Safiullin Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came on the Challenger circuit with Evans winning that in three sets.

A Season to Forget for Evans

While Evans can be supremely proud of his effort in Davis Cup last week where he won both his singles matches against Alex de Minaur and Arthur Fils, his overall form at the highest level has been quite forgettable.

In fact, despite making it to the third round at the US Open, Evans has won a mere 16 matches all season to go with a whopping 22 defeats in 2023. That’s not the kind of track record a player ranked 27th in the world would like for himself.

What’s been remarkable is that despite a string of such results for the season, Evans’ ranking has fluctuated between a high of 21st and a low of 30th this year.

And it was as recently as last month that Evans had hit a career-high of 21st in the world after he won an ATP 500 event in Washington. Inconsistencies in his results has been an obvious problem for Evans as he looks to go deep in another tournament here.

Evans is 10/11 (with bet365) to win this.

Safiullin Sends Out Nakashima

A quarterfinalist at Wimbledon this season, Safiullin hasn’t had similar kind of results in the follow-up to that. He was sent packing in the first rounds of the Cincinnati Masters and Winston-Salem Open and then made the second round at the US Open where Tommy Paul edged him out from being two sets down.

Which is why Safiullin will relish his opening round performance against Brandon Nakashima.

In a match lasting less than an hour and a half, Safiullin sent Nakashima packing 6-4, 6-4 to reach the second round here.

Such was the clinical nature of the victory that Safiullin earned himself three break-points and broke his opponent two times. On the other hand, he did not face a single break-point and eased through his service games.

He now faces an inconsistent Evans but one who has perched in the top 30 of the rankings for a while. Can he grab a win with bet365 offering 10/11 for that?

Evans v Safiullin Prediction and Tip

This could turn out to be a humdinger of a contest but one where Safiullin holds an edge. Might see a three-set win for Safiullin.

Tips:

  • High Risk Tip: Safiullin to win in three sets: 3/1 (with bet365)
