Andy Murray v Aslan Karatsev Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came in the final of the 2022 Sydney International where Karatsev won in straight sets.

Murray Takes Time with Mo

Ye Chong Mo is ranked outside of the top 650 on the ATP Rankings and Murray would have expected a far easier outing than he finally did in his opener here.

In a match that went on for an hour and 42 minutes, Murray was forced to save five break-points before winning 7-5, 6-3. He earned himself a break of serve in each of the two sets having earned three break-points in all.

In fact, right after Murray had broken Mo in the 12th game of the encounter to clinch the first set, he faced four break-points in the very next. He saved them all before gaining his only break of the second set in the fourth game.

Murray had entered this tournament on the back of a second round exit at the US Open but having won his only Davis Cup singles match. All of these results would have come as a bit of a relief for the Brit who had earlier been forced to withdraw from the Canadian Masters because of a fitness concern.

He will be a 4/6 favourite here with bet365.

Karatsev Stumbles Past Arnaldi

Karatsev had gone into his opening round match against Matteo Arnaldi as an 11/10 underdog (with bet365). And while he came through in the end to clinch the win, the Russian was forced on court for a whopping three hours and 12 minutes.

To go with that, Karatsev also needed two tie-breakers in those three sets before he finally came into his own in the deciding set.

No breaks of serves in the first set forced the two into a tie-breaker in which Arnaldi edged his opponent out 7-5. In the second set, Karatsev and Arnaldi traded breaks of serves between the seventh and the 10th games, forcing another tie-breaker.

Karatsev had a chance to wrap it up in the 12th game but he missed four break-points before winning it off his fifth in the tie-breaker.

In the decider, Karatsev then broke Arnaldi to win his first match since featuring in the third round of the US Open earlier this month. Can he shrug off the 6/5 odds on offer for his win with bet365?

Murray v Karatsev Prediction and Tip

He did lose to Karatsev in their only previous meeting but that was a different quality of Karatsev we are talking about. A Karatsev who was on a roll and who had made things difficult for his opponents around then. That was the last time he made it that far too. Backing a Murray win here.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Murray to win: 4/6 (with bet365)
  • High Risk Tip: Murray to win AND Over 22.5 games in the match: 21/10 (with bet365)
