Minnen and Wang have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

After having eased to a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Harriet Dart in the first round, Minnen has been made to work very hard for her wins in the following two matches. The good news is she is still standing tall, having clinched back to back three-setters.
Having needed two tie-breakers in the three sets that were played in her second round encounter with Harriet Dart, Minnen took her time coming into her own in her quarterfinal against Lucia Bronzetti.
Thankfully for Minnen, she was able to wear down Bronzetti, having earlier frittered away three set-points in the first set tie-breaker. Eventually she came through 6-7 (8), 6-4, 6-1 in a match lasting two hours and 49 minutes.
Minnen lost her serve twice in the match while getting the better of her opponent’s serve six times.
In getting to the semifinals here, this will be the first time this season that Minnen will be featuring in a WTA 250 competition last four encounter. Can she make it her maiden WTA finals?

Wang Ends Hruncakova’s Run
With straight-set wins over Diana Shniader and Nadia Podoroska under her belt, it looked like Wang wouldn’t have too many worries against lucky loser Viktoria Hruncakova in their quarterfinals.
The winning odds of 3/10 (at bet365) seemed to suggest that. So did the kind of start that Wang had to the match as she wrapped up the first set in 45 minutes.
Hruncakova, however, turned things around in the second with a break of serve in the fifth game, which was more than enough to seal off the equaliser.
Fortunately for Wang, she managed to shrug off an early break of serve in the third set to take a 3-1 lead before breaking her opponent again in the sixth game. Soon after she had served out the match to set up this semifinal meeting with Minnen.

Neither player has made it to a WTA singles tournament final before this which means there will be nerves. The player who manages to hold on to them will have a better chance of coming through. We think this might be over in straight sets.
