Miomir Kecmanovic v Corentin Moutet Head to Head

The pair have played each other once before, and that was in Naples last year.

Kecmanovic was a break to the good in the first set of their match, when Moutet retired with an injury.

Kecmanovic Enjoys Winning Feeling Again

Twice a beaten finalist this year, Kecmanovic is still waiting to add to his one solitary ATP title that he won back in 2020 in Kitzbuhel.

However, he had endured something of a slump since reaching the quarter-finals of Eastbourne, and first round defeats at both Wimbledon and US Open would have been disappointments to the Serb.

There is nothing like winning though, to restore some confidence, and Benjamin Lock of Zimbabwe, a qualifier ranked 346 in the world, offered him the opportunity to do just that.

A break midway through put Kecmanovic in charge of the first set, which he sealed with another one.

Lock was broken at the start of the second set, but then began to show some resistance. He had break points in the next game, and then did get the break back.

That, though, just inspired Kecmanovic to raise his level. He forced another break, and nerved out for the match.

Moutet Brushes Aside Wildcard

Moutet, who was kicked out by his own tennis federation last year for bad behaviour, continues to have plenty to say for himself. Maria Sharapova and Simona Halep have all been subject of his verbal attacks, whilst his imitation of Iga Swiatek whilst practising for the Cincinnati Masters, went viral on social media.

However, his tennis may be suffering as a result, and he has dropped more than seventy places in the rankings since the start of the year.

He came to Chengdu have won just once on the main tour since reaching the second round of Newport Beach back in July.

Perhaps fortunately for him, the draw was kind to him, with his first round opponent being the Chinese wildcard, Tao Mu, the world number 573.

The pair swapped breaks midway through the first set before the difference in class began to tell, and Moutet reeled off four successive games to claim the set.

He did save a break point in the second set, but it was only a matter of time as far as Mu was concerned. Moutet broke him once, and then again, wrapping up the match with a minimum of fuss.

Kecmanovic v Moutet Prediction and Tip

Both have struggled to find their best form lately, and both had the benefits of favourable first round draws.

Based on world rankings alone, Kecmanovic should be considered the favourite.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Kecmanovic to win: 5/7 (with bet365)
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6 (with bet365)
