Nadia Podoroska v Xiyu Wang Head to Head

The pair have \played each other once before, and that was in the first round in Guangzhou last week, Wang winning in straight sets.

Podoroska Struggling Away from Clay

When Podoroska reached the semi-finals of the French Open as a qualifier in 2020, she announced herself to the world. However, she has not really built on that achievement, although injuries have played their part in hampering her progress.

Winning a WTA 125 title in Colombia this year was a reminder of her talent, although it should be noted that was on clay, her surface of preference.

In fact, since she left clay behind her in Hamburg, where she reached the second round, the Argentine has only won one main draw match, and that was in Osaka, where she struggled past the world number 137, Yue Yuan, in three sets,

Otherwise, it has just been a succession of first round defeats, with the loss to Wang last week the latest in a long line of them.

Guangzhou Winner Wang

Perhaps fittingly, it was Wang, a Chinese player, who marked the WTA’s return to the country after the Covid isolation period by winning the title in Guangzhou last week, her first WTA tour success.

It capped a successful week which culminated with her beating the top seed, Magda Linette of Poland, the world number 27 in the final, which turned out to be a very one-sided match, with the Pole winning just two games in the course of it.

Wang had been in good form recently anyway – prior to Guangzhou, she had been the beaten finalist in an ITF event in Osaka.

And it also means that she is beginning to fulfil some of the potential that she showed as a junior, when she won the singles at the US Open, and the doubles in Wimbledon.

By the time that the WTA rankings are next published, she can expect to be one of the players on the rise.

Podoroska v Wang Prediction and Tip

This is an immediate rematch after their meeting in Guangzhou last week, and it is difficult to see the outcome being anything different. Wang will be full of confidence after her maiden tour title, whilst Podoroska is struggling right now.

The Argentine can only hope that her exertions in Guangzhou means that Wang is not at her best,
