Yoshihito Nishioka v Aslan Karatsev Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came in the 2022 Paris Masters opener and Nishioka had won that in straight sets.

Nishioka Ends Struff’s Campaign

It did take him an hour and a half but Nishioka continued his return to form with a straight-set win over Jan-Lennard Struff to make it to the semifinals here.

In winning his third successive match, Nishioka had done that for the first time since reaching the fourth round at the French Open earlier this year in late May. It was also only his second such record of three wins on the bounce since February 2023.

Nishioka won 6-4, 7-5, needing a break of serve in the first set and coming back from having failed to serve it out at 5-4 to break his opponent in the 11th game of the set.

His journey to the semifinal hasn’t been the easiest one with Nishioka needing to come back from a set down in his opener against Terence Almane and having needed two tie-breakers against Lloyd Harris in the second.

Can he shrug off the 11/10 odds (with bet365) for his win here?

Karatsev Juggernaut Overpowers Norrie

Karatsev wasn’t quite the favourite going into his opener against Matteo Arnaldi and was taken to the third set by his Italian opponent. Since then, he has played Andy Murray and Cameron Norrie in the following two rounds and much like what happened against Arnaldi, he has overcome his opponents despite being a second favourite.

Murray was a set up against Karatsev too and the Russian ended up winning the next two relatively easily.

Against Norrie, Karatsev was on court for two hours and 23 minutes, faced just one break-point but when it really mattered, he came away a winner. And that was in the two tie-breakers that were played.

In the first, Karatsev ran away to a 3-0 lead while in the second, he took control of the tie-breaker from a 4-4 scoreline.

Can he now live up to his favourites odds for the first time in this tournament with bet365 offering 8/11 for his win?

Nishioka v Karatsev Prediction and Tip

We believe Karatsev has done enough so far to deserve going into this encounter as a favourite. Backing a straight-set win for the Russian.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Karatsev to win: 8/11 (with bet365)
  • High Risk Tip: Karatsev to win in straight sets: 2/1 (with bet365)
