Dimitrov Routs O’Connell
In what was his second successive straight-set victory, Dimitrov did not waste too much time in getting past Christopher O’Connell and sealing his semifinal berth.
Dimitrov, who had overcome Juan Pablo Varillas in the opener, dropped just five games in his second round victory over O’Connell. He won 6-4, 6-1 in an hour and 25 minutes to clinch the win.
The difference between the two players came with their serving as Dimitrov broke him thrice while only facing two break-points and saving them both.
In doing so, for the second tournament in a row now, Dimitrov has won successive matches to reach the third round. The last time he did that was at the US Open where he fell to Zverev himself.
