Iga Swiatek v Mai Hontama Head to Head

Swiatek and Hontama have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Swiatek Returning After Early US Open Exit

The last time Swiatek was on court playing competitive tennis, she had not just lost in the fourth round of the US Open. It was also the first time in weeks that she had lost her number one spot on the WTA Rankings with Aryna Sabalenka taking over the top position on the ranking charts.

It has been a bit of a bummer for Swiatek, not just losing the top spot but also her performances since she won the French Open title earlier this year.

The world number two has featured in six tournaments since then and only once made the final – and even that came at a WTA 250 event in her home tournament in Warsaw. Other than that, Swiatek lost in the quarterfinal at Wimbledon and semifinals in Montreal and Cincinnati respectively before that US Open ouster.

Swiatek will now look to turn things around on the Asian swing as she heads into the WTA Finals later this season with the hope of ending the season back at the number one spot.

She is 1/50 to win this with bet365.

Hontama Wins Battle of Japanese Players

Nao Hibino is an experienced Japanese player who has three WTA titles under her belt in her career. She is ranked 92nd in the world.

On the other hand, Hontama has never been ranked better than 126th in her career and her only titles – four of them – have come on the ITF circuit. Still there wasn’t much to choose between the two as they faced off in the first round with bet365 offering 4/5 for Hontama’s win.

That’s exactly how things panned out for Hontama as she routed her experienced opponent in straight sets to make it to the second round of an event for the second week in a row.

Having coming off a stunning showing in Osaka last week where she made the semifinal Hontama defeated Hibino 6-2, 6-4 in a match that lasted a mere 68 minutes. Hontama wrapped up the first set rather quickly while in the second she came back from being 0-3 down to win six of the last seven games in a jiffy.

Things could get a lot tougher against the world number two now and no surprises that she starts off 16/1 (with bet365) to win this.

Swiatek v Hontama Prediction and Tip

Anything other than a straight-set win for Swiatek will be a huge shock and we are going with that. Could see a 6-2, 6-2 sort of a scoreline too.
