Veronika Kudermetova v Kayla Day Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came in the qualifiers of an ITF event in 2016 and it was Day who had won that encounter.

With form not Kudermetova’s biggest ally at the moment, it took her some time but in the end she was able to get past Britain’s Harriet Dart in the first round.
In a match that lasted an hour and 48 minutes, Kudermetova registered a 6-3, 7-6 (4) win over Dart to enter the second round of this competition. It was her third match win from the previous nine encounters, an indicator of how bad things have been for the Russian before this.
Even here, Dart was able to get past Kudermetova’s serve on three occasions including when she took a 3-0 lead in the second set. Kudermetova broke back twice to serve for a 5-3 scoreline only to drop her serve a third time.
In the tie-breaker that followed, however, Kudermetova’s superior pedigree was on display as she ran away with the win.
She is now 1/4 (at bet365) to make it to the quarterfinals despite her form issues.

Day Eases Past Uchijima
Day had sprung to fame when she made it through to the main draw of the French Open through the qualifiers and then went on to shock Madison Keys on her way to the third round.
Since then, however, the American hasn’t done too much of note at the highest level. She did win an ITF level title but in the five highest level WTA tournaments she played in, she hadn’t won a single main draw match.
Coming up against Moyuka Uchijima, Day might have been a favourite but not by much thanks to the aforementioned struggles. She started out at 8/11 odds with bet365 and that she managed to come through in straight sets would be a bit of a relief for her.
The world number 96 made it past her Japanese opponent 6-2, 6-2 to seal her second round spot and while things might get difficult from here on, it could also give her the confidence for the rest of the season.
