Korpatsch Surprises Burrage
Jodie Burrage went into her opener against Korpatsch as a 4/6 favourite (bet365) but it was the German who came through in straight sets to enter the second round.
In a match lasting an hour and 40 minutes, Korpatsch won 6-2, 7-6 (1) to set up a second round meeting with Jabeur.
Korpatsch, who had earlier made the semifinal of the Prague Open – also a hardcourt competition – had won just one main draw match since then. Which is why when she overcame the break of her serve in the very first game of the encounter to break her opponent three times she would have felt slightly more confident.
And it’s that very feeling that would have helped her as she came back from a break down in the second set on three separate occasions to win it in a tie-breaker.
She is a distant second favourite here with bet365 offering 5/2 for her win but she will know Jabeur’s issues in recent times have been quite pronounced. The question is if she can take advantage of that.
