Alexander Zverev v Diego Schwartzman Head to Head

There have been five previous meetings between these two players and Zverev leads 3-2. The last time they played, however, was in 2020.

Zverev Back After Chengdu Title

Such has been Zverev’s comeback to the tour that slowly and steadily he has not only shrugged off any potential ramifications of his ankle injury from last year he has also returned back into the top 10 of the ATP Rankings.

What makes his performances even more special is the manner in which he has clocked a win-loss record of 47-21 for the season which includes two titles already.

The second of those tournament wins came in Chengdu in the lead-up to this competition in Beijing where he overcame Pavel Kotov, Miomir Kecmanovic, Grigor Dimitrov and Roman Safiullin in the matches he played there.

Zverev did find the going tough against Safiullin when they faced off in the final with the German number one needing three sets and two tie-breakers to come through.

Against a player who has had one of the worst seasons of his career, Zverev will be a huge favourite with bet365 offering 1/8 for his win here.

It’s All Gone Wrong for Schwartzman

Schwartzman had begun the season ranked 25th in the world. Never since February 2017 had the Argentine been outside the top 50 of the ATP Rankings but in April this year a string of poor results forced him out of that.

It didn’t stop there as Schwartzman fell from one defeat to another and even on his favourite clay court, Schwartzman failed to stitch together any wins.

What that has resulted in was a steady fall in his rankings as he hit a season-low of 136th earlier this month. The last time he was that low on the ATP charts was way back in 2013!

To add to that, the last time Schwartzman won a main draw match was at Wimbledon early in July but since then he has lost in the second round in that tournament, the first rounds at Washington, Toronto, US Open and Zhuai. Add to that a qualification loss in Cincinnati and there you have it – a forgettable year all around for Schwartzman.

Coming up against a player in the form that Zverev is, it’s a surprise that Schwartzman is even 11/2 (at bet365) to win it.

Zverev v Schwartzman Prediction and Tip

There isn’t too much else to say except that Zverev should not only win this but also do that in straight sets and very convincingly at that.
