Iga Swiatek v Veronika Kudermetova Head to Head

There have been four previous meetings between these two players and Swiatek has not only won them but also done that in straight sets. Add that to the fact that Swiatek has lost just 10 games over the eight sets played between these two players and you know which way this match could be headed.

Swiatek Not at Her Best in Opener

Coming back to competitive tennis after having last featured at the US Open, Swiatek was drawn to play the 148th-ranked Mai Hontama in her opener here. And she was 1/50 odds to overcome Hontama as a result.

In a match that went on for more than two hours, Swiatek overcame Hontama 6-4, 7-5 to seal off her place in the second round next to Kudermetova.

And it wasn’t too easy either. Hontama, in fact, broke Swiatek twice in the first set to serve for a 5-1 lead but the world number retaliated with three breaks in a row to claim the first set.

In the second, Swiatek dropped her serve yet again but levelled things out in the second game and then added two more breaks of serves to grab a 5-1 lead.

But just when one thought it was all over bar the shouting, Swiatek was broken two more times, before she missed two match-points on her opponent’s serve. A third and fourth match-point came in the 12th game and this time around, Swaitek clinched the win – much to her relief but with five breaks of serves against her, it needs to be seen if rustiness will be a factor.

Kudermetova Ends Day

After having registered a fighting but straight-set win over Harriet Dart in the first round of this competition, Kudermetova made it two victories in a row for the first time since the Berlin Open in June by defeating Kayla Day.

Kudermetova, who had lost her form and rhythm following an injury and subsequent withdrawal from that tournament in Berlin, was 3-6 on win-loss entering this tournament.

Which is why, winning back to back matches here would have done her a world of good. Especially given the manner in which she defeated Day, winning 6-3, 6-3 in less than an hour and a half.

The Russian faced just one break-point in the encounter and easily saved it while overcoming Day’s serve on three occasions from the four chances she got. She also lost just five points on her first serve and seven on the second to carve out the victory.

Kudermetova will now be up against the world number two and given her track record, she will know she would have to do something drastically different if she wants to turn things around against her. She is 3/1 to win this with bet365.

Swiatek v Kudermetova Prediction and Tip

If you are believer in trends or a believer in recent form, you would know this match is headed just one way – a straight-set drubbing of Kudermetova.
