Tomas Martin Etcheverry v Lloyd Harris Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 24 year old Argentine, and the South African, who is two years older.

Zhuhai Quarter-Finalist Etcheverry

Etcheverry is now the number two ranked Argentine player after Francisco Cerundulo after what has been a breakthrough season for him.

He reached two clay court ATP finals on clay in Chile and Houston, and another in Bordeaux, also on clay on the Challenger tour. He did not win any of them, but picked up useful points in the process.

And, for the first time, he reached the quarter-final of a Grand Slam at the French Open.

Results had dropped off since he left clay behind him for American hard courts, but he can take some encouragement from his performance last week in Zhuhai where he reached the quarter-finals, before he was well beaten in straight sets by the American, Sebastian Korda.

Harris Successfully Navigates Qualifying

Two years ago, Harris was on the verge of breaking into the top 30, but the wrist injury and subsequent surgery that he required, caused him to miss the second half of last season and he has found, like many before him, that it can be a long hard slog back to the top.

Undoubtedly the highlight of his season came on the grass of Mallorca. Not only did he reach the semi-finals there in the singles, before losing to the eventual winner, Christopher Eubanks, but he also claimed his first senior title in the doubles.

That, though, proved to be something of a false dawn, and he has struggled to replicate those types of performances since.

He was beaten in the second round of the US Open, although, he can claim in mitigation, that he was playing Carlos Alcaraz.

Last week in Zhuhai he also reached the second round, losing to Yoshito Nishioka on that occasion.

He was forced to enter the qualifying competition in Beijing, successfully navigating his way past Daniel Altmaeir of Germany and Cristian Garin of Chile without dropping a set.

Etcheverry v Harris Prediction and Tip

Although there is more than 100 places separating the pair when it comes to the world rankings, the surface is a leveller in this case, and is far more to the South African’s liking than the Argentine’s. That makes Harris the favourite to win.
