Caroline Garcia v Maria Sakkari Head to Head

There have been five previous meetings between these two with Garcia leading 3-2.

This includes a 6-3, 6-0 rout in favour of Sakkari as recently as the previous week when they faced off at the Guadalajara Open in the semifinal round.

Garcia Eases Past Kalinina

Having earned a first round bye, Garcia was hopeful of continuing to exhibit the same kind of form that she had in Guadalajara last week. The Frenchwoman had made the semifinal there and while she was 10/11 to win her second round match against Anhelina Kalinina, she had enough confidence coming into this one.

As it turned out, Garcia needed a shade over an hour and a half to find herself a win.

Slamming 10 aces in the process, Garcia broke her opponent three times including twice in the first set to win it 6-4, 6-3. Garcia faced four break-points in the match, all of which came in the opening set while in the second she lost a mere six points on her own serve.

Garcia will now hope for revenge as she takes on a player who is coming off a semifinal win in Guadalajara over her last week. She is 13/10 (with bet365) to pull it off.

Sakkari Has No Trouble against Doi

Misaki Doi had made it through the qualifiers to enter the main draw and then shocked Petra Martic in the first round of the tournament. Sakkari, however, has turned things around so dramatically for herself that a player ranked 331st in the world, which Doi is, was never going to trouble her.

And that’s exactly how their second round match panned out.

On a five-match winning streak following her Guadalajara Open title win, Sakkari was on court for a mere 67 minutes as she drubbed Doi 6-3, 6-1 to reach the last eight.

Sakkari proved to be too strong on her own serve as she lost a mere three first serve points and six off the second serve, facing no break-points in the encounter. On the other hand, she broke Doi four times to seal a second meeting in as many weeks with Garcia.

The Greek number one will start off a favourite here with bet365 offering 3/5 for her win.

Garcia v Sakkari Prediction and Tip

While Garcia has shown she is back to near her best, Sakkari’s confidence would have soared high after having won her first ever WTA 1000 title and her first WTA title since 2019. Backing the Greek woman to clinch this too.
