Andrey Rublev v Ugo Humbert Head to Head

There have been three main draw and one qualifying round matches between these two players and Rublev leads 3-1. This includes one match played earlier this season at the Indian Wells Masters where Rublev came through in straight sets.

Rublev Edges Out Norrie

A first round match between Rublev and Cameron Norrie is almost as unfair as they can come as far as difficult draws go. Not too often do you see a world number six taking on a 16th-ranked player in opening round matches.

Norrie’s form recently, however, has been a bit of a downer and that’s also probably why Rublev was a 1/2 favourite in the encounter despite the closeness of their encounter.

The Brit did put up a bit of a fight, even grabbing the first set on the back of his only break of serve in the first set but from that point onward it was Rublev who dominated the proceedings.

Rublev broke Norrie twice in the second set to wrest the control back and then went 3-1 up in the decider with a third break of serve. He did face a deuce in one of the games he served in but other than that he was in no danger as he won 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 to reach the second round.

Coming up against Humbert, Rublev starts a whopping 3/10 favourite here with bet365.

Humbert Overcomes Sonego

Lorenzo Sonego hasn’t had the greatest of times on the circuit recently, especially when it comes to surfaces other than clay. Spread across all levels of the game, he was 9-7 on clay and 12-16 on the other surfaces before the start of this tournament.

And Humbert took full advantage of those struggles as he carved out a three-set win over his opponent in the opener.

In a match that lasted two hours and 23 minutes, Humbert stole the march on his opponent in the final set when he broke Sonego three times to end up with a bagel.

This follows Humbert’s form having plateaued off in recent times following his withdrawal from the third round of the Washington Open earlier last month. He won’t have it easy against Rublev as he starts off a 9/4 underdog (with bet365) despite his solid win in the opener.

Rublev v Humbert Prediction and Tip

Rublev can be expected to not just win this but to do that in straight sets and march into the quarterfinals. Expect Humbert to not be able to put up too much of a show.
