Vekic is still ranked 20th in the world, just one spot behind her career-best ranking of 19th and a good tournament or two could well see her go past that and into the top 15 of the WTA Rankings charts.
The only trouble here is she hasn’t looked her best in the last two tournaments that she has played in since retiring from her third round match at the Cincinnati Open last month. She had suffered a viral illness and from that point onward it hasn’t looked like things have gone too well for her.
She returned at the US Open only to lose to Sachia Vickery in the first round despite starting out a 3/10 favourite (with bet365) but more vitally it was shocking to watch her capitulate in Tokyo last week.
Facing Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the opener, Vekic managed to win just a couple of games in the encounter before bowing out.

Blinkova 2-6 Since Wimbledon
The difference between a top 10 player and a good player aspiring to join that league is the latter shows signs of dwindling performances as the season reaches its final legs.
And that’s what seems to have happened with Blinkova who looked to have done in the first half of the season having reached the semifinal of the Hobart International and the final of the Strasbourg Open.
Blinkova also entered the third round at Wimbledon but since that match against Aryna Sabalenka, she has lost her rhythm completely.
Her issues began at the Washington Open where she was toppled over by 7/2 underdog Clervie Ngounoue in the first round and over the following few matches has won just two more. There have been eight defeats to go with that.
More recently she made the second round of the Ningbo Open but her struggles give Vekic some hope. She is 6/4 to win this with bet365.
