Xinyu Wang v Vera Zvonareva Head to Head

Wang and Zvonareva have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Wang Returns from Her Osaka Semis

It’s been the kind of season for Wang which she would look back fondly. Especially in hardcourt tennis on which she found herself winning 29 of the 43 matches she participated in, which included a title on the ITF circuit but more vitally some solid displays at the WTA level.

She was the quarterfinalist at the Cleveland Open and then surprised the lot with a fourth round appearance at the US Open where she went down in three sets to Karolina Muchova.

Which is why, having kick-started the season ranked 89th in the world, Wang has now jumped up to 38th and could go even further with a few wins in the rest of the year.

Now for her to end the year on a high with some solid performances in these last couple of WTA events including this WTA 1000 event at home in China. She starts off a 3/10 favourite with bet365 to win this.

Zvonareva Solid in Ningbo

She is a former world number two, but at 39, Zvonareva isn’t playing a lot of competitive tennis. And definitely not a lot at the highest level which means that her WTA Ranking has fallen to outside the top 500 at the time of writing.

The start of the new week two days later will see her improve to 398th in the world thanks to her performance at the Ningbo Open and that’s what she would like to take into the end of the season.

Zvonareva made the quarterfinal there on the back of wins over Katie Boulter and Clara Tauson and while she went down to the eventual champion Ons Jabeur, it wasn’t without a fight. The Russian took Jabeur to a third set before going down to the top 10 player.

And that’s exactly why it might not be that easy for Wang to get past this old warhorse of an opponent who starts off a 5/2 favourite with bet365.

Wang v Zvonareva Prediction and Tip

While Wang can be expected to win this we believe Zvonareva won’t make things easy for her and can push this into a third.
