While one would hope that the return of confidence would have been her takeaway from the Ningbo Open, the bigger sentiment is probably that of relief as she enters the China Open. Rus on a Five-Match Losing Streak
It’s a bit of a surprise that Rus starts off a 5/6 favourite (with bet365) in her opening round match here despite entering this tournament with the kind of recent record that she has had.
The veteran Dutchwoman featured in the Ningbo Open last week where she led Kamila Rakhimova by a set before crashing out in three.
And in the four matches before that, Rus didn’t even win that. All were straight-set losses with three of those having also come at the hands of players who weren’t that highly-ranked either.
Which is why coming into this one against Fruhvirtova, Rus might not have any kind of rhythm or confidence to get started. And while she will know that her opponent has recently faced some of her own on-court grievances, Rus will hope to find her own method of getting back to winning ways.
