Holger Rune v Grigor Dimitrov Head to Head
This will be their second time playing as they played before. Rune won that match at this year’s Wimbledon in four sets.

Before finally beating Felix Auger-Aliassime in the China Open 1st proud, Holger Rune was actually on an active losing streak. He lost the seven previous matches he played, which is quite unprecedented for a Top 10 ranked player. All players struggle but the best ones never struggle that much.
It was a back injury that plagued him during that time, but he’s since declared himself healthy, and he looked a bit better against Auger. It wasn’t a perfect match and certainly not one that will make you go ‘wow’, but it was an important win for Rune.
I expect him to come out stronger in this next one and deliver a better show. If he does, then he’ll likely win, as the matchup against Dimitrov does favour him quite a bit.
Still, he hasn’t been winning that much lately, so there is always a chance that he loses, but generally, he’s the better player.

Dimitrov Barely Escapes Against McDonald
Grigor Dimitrov was not playing a very good match in the first round, as he was pretty much on edge against McDonald. The American looked in a great position to finish off the match, but he didn’t, and Dimitrov used the second set momentum to completely turn around the match.
It was a huge win for the Bulgarian, who has been spectacular at times this year. It’s the consistency which is the problem, and it’s been a problem for much of his career. When you look at this record 33-17, it’s amazing, but most of those wins didn’t come consecutively.
You’d expect him to amaze you in his next match after this superb win, but actually, it’s more likely the opposite will happen. I wouldn’t count him out against Rune, but it’s not a very good matchup for him.
He’ll need both his serve and forehand to work really well to keep Rune away from winners, as the Dane is the better shot-maker. With a high bounce in Beijing that can become a really big problem rather quickly.
Rune v Dimitrov Prediction and Tip
It’s a really tough one to call but I’m going to side with Rune as I think he’ll be a bit better in this match having finally won again. I just can’t back Dimitrov with his inconsistent level.
