Magdalena Frech v Katie Boulter Head to Head

They have faced off once before this on the ITF circuit in 2017 with Frech winning that semifinal in three sets.

Frech is hovering close to her career-best ranking of 66th in the world, being just three spots away from there. And as she starts off her campaign here against a fellow qualifier, Frech will know she has a chance of getting to the second round and in turn adding valuable ranking points to her tally in the lead-up to the season end.

What the Polish player will look at is her performance from way back in June when she reached the quarterfinal of the Birmingham International. There too she had started off as a qualifier.

Since that point onward, however, she has featured in nine tournaments and only twice has she made the second round of a tournament. The second of those came in the Guadalajara Open two weeks ago where she routed Camila Osorio in the opener.

Frech has a chance to add another second round appearance to that list but she takes on a player who is also close to her career-best ranking of 50th in the world.

Boulter Drops Six Games in Qualifiers

Ranked 54th in the world, Boulter was also forced to feature in the qualifiers but that did not seem to deter her too much as she stormed into the main draw with two straightforward victories.

In the first round, the Brit defeated Zhuoxuan Bai 6-2, 6-2 before dropping a sum total of two games in her second qualifier against Kamila Rakhimova. While she was a favourite in both those encounters, Boulter’s performances in them spoke about the kind of form she has been in all of this year.

This is the same player who was 157th in the world in the first week of April and even two months later was still at 126th.

It was her maiden title win at the Nottingham Open that propelled her into the top 100 and from that point onward she has been consistent with her results. More recently, Boulter made the third round of the US Open as well.

Boulter starts off a 3/5 favourite (bet365) here.

Frech v Boulter Prediction and Tip

Backing Boulter to start things off as a favourite here with Frech expected to make things difficult but only go so far.
