Bouzkova Returns after US Open

It was in the 2022 season that Bouzkova had ascended into the top 30 of the WTA Rankings having risen from her season-low of 97th in the world in March to grabbing her career-high of 24th.

Bouzkova started this season off ranked 24th too and while she has had a few moments of glory this year, she hasn’t been able to recapture some of the form from 2022. The good news for Bouzkova is she is still in the top 30 of the rankings at the time of writing and a good performance or two in the rest of the season should be enough to help her hold on to it.

The Czech returns to courts after having last played in the US Open where she made the third round. A fighting three-setter against Ons Jabeur went against her there.

In the two tournaments before that, however, Bouzkova looked like she had rediscovered some of her lost touch as she made the third round in Montreal and the quarterfinals of the Cincinnati Open.

Can she kick things off here with a straightforward win against a qualifier? Bouzkova is 1/2 (bet365) to win this.

Putintseva Has No Qualifying Trouble

Putintseva wasn’t in the best of forms during the North American hardcourt swing as she won just one main draw match spread across three tournaments there.

Fortunately for Putintseva it looks like she has managed to turn things around in Asia.

She started off with a quarterfinal appearance at the Osaka Open and then stormed into the semifinal in Guangzhou. At Ningbo, Putintseva won against Daria Saville in her opener before withdrawing from her second match, giving Petra Kvitova a walkover.

The good news for Putintseva is there didn’t seem too much wrong as she came back in the qualifiers here and won both of them with ease. Jodie Burrage and Elina Avanesyan were her opponents in this and she dropped six and five games respectively at the two of those matches.

Can she put Bouzkova to the sword? She is 6/4 with bet365 to win this.
