Swiatek Goes Past Sorribes Tormo

It took Swiatek an hour and 35 minutes in the end but she made it past Sara Sorribes Tormo in straight sets to seal off her second round berth.

Swiatek, who had come into this tournament on the back of looking off-colour on the courts, continued to struggle with her serves as her Spanish opponent broke her four times in the encounter.

Three of those came in successive games in the second set but Swiatek had already established a two-break cushion by then, finishing up a 6-4, 6-3 winner.

This follows a quarterfinal exit at the Tokyo Open, losing to Veronika Kudermetova after having scraped past Mai Hontama in her previous round. Swiatek will hope to do a lot better against Gracheva as she chases a year-ending number one spot in the world.

Gracheva Shocks Potapova

Anastasia Potapova might not be in the greatest of forms in recent times but she is ranked 27th in the world and going up against the 47th-ranked Gracheva, she was a clear-cut favourite.

Because Gracheva herself had entered that match on the back of four successive defeats and just one main draw win from her previous six tournaments.

Gracheva, however, took an hour and 47 minutes in her 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 win over Potapova to seal her second round berth against Swiatek.

There were plenty of breaks of serves in the encounter with Gracheva herself dropping her serve four times. The first of those came in the very first game of the match while three more followed in the second set.

It was in the decider that Gracheva got things perfectly right, losing just three points on her own serve while getting past her opponent’s serve on three occasions.

She will know she won’t be the favourite here by any stretch but as things go, this could be one of her better chances of giving Swiatek a fight given her opponent’s form in recent times.

Swiatek v Gracheva Prediction and Tip

Swiatek to win for sure despite all that has gone about in the recent times but will it be as straightforward as one can expect out of an early round for her? We doubt that.
