Garcia Has Struggled With Consistency Since April

World no. 10 Caroline Garcia will be making her seventh appearance at the China Open.

The Frenchwoman had won the tournament in 2017 by beating Simona Halep in the final.

Garcia is 36-23 this season and has featured in two finals this year, finishing runner-up in Lyon and Monterrey.

She has reached the quarterfinals in each of her previous tournaments. While she went down in the quarterfinals in San Diego and Tokyo, she was a semifinalist in Guadalajara, where she lost to Maria Sakkari in straight sets.

Garcia hasn’t been able to match what she did last year, when she finished with a 47-22 record. She has been particularly inconsistent since April.

Can she make a fine start in Beijing?

Baindl Qualifies for the Main Draw

World no. 88 Kateryna Baindl qualified for the main draw at the China Open with a straight sets win over Yanina Wickmayer on Saturday.

The Ukrainian, who had won her first qualifying round match against Rebeka Masarova in straight sets, needed an hour and 55 minutes to beat the Belgian 6-3, 7-5.

Baindl is 18-20 across levels this season and her best came in Budapest, where she went on to reach the final, only to finish runner-up to the unheralded Maria Timofeeva.

This is the first time that Baindl has qualified for the China Open. Can the Ukrainian make an impression?

Garcia v Baindl Prediction and Tip

Garcia has done well in the initial rounds in most tournaments this year. She is also the higher ranked player and the superior player in this contest. Expect her to beat the Ukrainian in the first round.
