Jannik Sinner v Grigor Dimitrov Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two players and both have won one. They first faced off in Rome in 2020 where Dimitrov needed three sets to come through before Sinner won in their meeting in Miami earlier this year.

Sinner Crushes Nishioka

After having been stretched to three sets in the first round match against Dan Evans, Sinner came back strongly in the second round against Yoshihito Nishioka to send his opponent packing in a hurry.

In a match that lasted a mere 68 minutes, Sinner registered a 6-2, 6-0 win over his Japanese opponent to seal off his berth in the last eight stage.

Interestingly, the match began with the two players trading breaks of serves but once Nishioka had levelled things off at 2-2 there was no looking back for Sinner. He won 10 games in a row from that point onward.

This is Sinner’s first tournament since he had made the fourth round at the US Open early last month. He will hope to seal off his ATP Finals berth with a distant run here as he also prepares for the remaining two Masters 1000 tournaments of the season.

Dimitrov Ends Rune’s Journey

Much like Sinner, Dimitrov did not have the easiest opening round wins, needing to come back from being a set down against Mackenzie McDonald. Things got a lot easier in the second round though, especially against a player of the calibre of Holger Rune.

Dimitrov was on court for an hour and 33 minutes and managed to pull through to a straight-set win over Rune.

Serving was the biggest difference between the two players what with Dimitrov facing just two break-points in the encounter while Rune getting broken four times from the 11 chances that his opponent got.

A semifinalist in this tournament way back in 2017, Dimitrov will now hope to emulate that feat again but up against him is a player who is fourth in the Race to Turin at the moment. No prizes for guessing that Dimitrov will be up against it.

Sinner v Dimitrov Prediction and Tip

While Dimitrov has done well in this competition so far, having also made the semifinal in Chengdu last week, he does find it difficult against the players of Sinner’s quality. He will take hope from his performance against Rune but it must be quickly added that the Danish player has been in a bit of a rut in recent times.
