Ruud Edges Past Etcheverry
In a match that went on for nearly three hours, Ruud rarely looked like he was the 1/4 favourite to win his second round encounter against Tomas Etcheverry.
Ruud was broken three times in the first set and even after taking an early lead in the second, lost his serve in the sixth game to be left with a lot to do at 5-5. He did manage to level things out with a break of serve in the 11th game but come the decider, Ruud fell 2-4 behind.
After levelling it out, Ruud was taken into a third set tie-breaker in which he again struggled.
Down 0-4 in the tie-breaker, Ruud made a comeback to level it out at 4-4, and then had match-points at 6-5, 7-6 and 8-7. It was the third one that got him a hard-earned victory.
Ruud will need to do a lot better than this against a player of the quality of Alcaraz.

Alcaraz has shown he holds the form and should not have a lot of difficulties in getting past his opponent here. A straight-set win for Alcaraz looks very likely.
