Jelena Ostapenko v Linda Noskova Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came in Birmingham earlier this year where Ostapenko needed three sets to go past Noskova.

Match Winning Odds*

Ostapenko Struggles Against Lys

It took Ostapenko some time to get going in her opener against Eva Lys but in the end she came through to win in three sets.

Ostapenko, who was 3/10 with bet365 to go past Lys, was broken six times by her opponent but still won 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 to seal off her second round berth for the fifth tournament running.

Broken thrice in the first set itself, Ostapenko then grabbed the lead on two occasions with a break of serve in the second set only to drop her serve again. She got lucky the third time when she overcame Lys’ serve in the eighth game before serving it out.

At 2-2 in the decider, it looked like the match was there for the taking and it was Ostapenko who grabbed control from that point onward as she broke her opponent twice in a row to set up a meeting with Noskova.

A quarterfinalist at the US Open, Ostapenko has lost the second match of both the following two tournaments – in San Diego and Guadalajara. She will hope she can turn things around here.

Noskova Eases Past Chinese Wildcard Entrant

Fangran Tian is ranked 551st in the world and was awarded a wildcard entry to feature in the main draw of the tournament. And while she was 7/1 to overcome Noskova in their opener, she did make things slightly tricky to begin with for her 44th-ranked opponent.

In the end, it took a mere hour and 25 minutes for Noskova to win it but not before she had saved two break-points early in the first set and lost her serve late in the second set. She did break Tian four times in the match before sealing off a 6-4, 6-2 win.

This follows an underwhelming set of results for Noskova more recently when she had won just two of her six matches in the lead-up to this competition.

So while this win will come as a bit of a relief, Noskova will know she has a lot to do return back to her best. A best that had seen her make the final of the Adelaide International and then again at the Prague Open.

Ostapenko v Noskova Prediction and Tip

Ostapenko has the game to break the second round hoodoos here and we back her to run through to the third round with what we think might just be a straight-set win.
