Cori Gauff v Veronika Kudermetova Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these two players and both have won one apiece. While Kudermetova won on the hardcourts of Doha, Gauff was a three-set winner in Stuttgart.

Despite starting out a 1/10 favourite to win her second round match, Gauff looked very unsure of doing that till the very end.
It was her confidence from having won the US Open that seemed to shine through in the end but a final set tie-breaker and three hours of a contest isn’t what Gauff would have thought of when she took on Petra Martic.
In the end, Gauff shrugged off an early break of serve in the final set and stopped Martic from serving for the match at 5-4 to win it 7-2 in the ensuing tie-breaker.
Gauff lost her serve six times in the match, a huge number for a player who has looked in imperious touch all throughout August and September. But the match also underlined Gauff’s fighting qualities as she dug deep into her reserves to conjure up the win.

Kudermetova in a Stunning Win over Tsurenko
Coming into the tournament on the back of a stunning title win at the Tokyo Open which consisted of wins over Iga Swiatek and Jessica Pegula, Kudermetova was awarded a bye into the second round because of that performance.
And drawn to face Lesia Tsurenko in the second, it looked like there wouldn’t be too many worries for the Russian.
As it turned out, the 2/5 favourite Kudermetova dropped her serve twice in the first set to lose it 6-3.
That might have stunned Kudermetova but what followed was even more shocking because Tsurenko suddenly went toothless with her tennis in general and serving in particular. Not only did Kudermetova face just two break-points in the rest of the match, she also broke Tsurenko six times to complete a 3-6, 6-0, 6-0 win over her.
It might not be that simple against Gauff but Kudermetova has a six-match winning streak and the confidence to go with it coming into this third round encounter.

Backing Gauff to continue her winning momentum and while she might still win it in two, we could see a bit of a fight from the Russian.
