Alexander Shevchenko v Tseng Chun Hsin Head to Head

They played twice so far, and both came earlier this year on clay. Each player has one win with the most recent one being won Tseng.

Shevchenko Returns From Indoors

Alexander Shevchenko played indoors last week, and that won’t help him much in this matchup because he will face quite different conditions in Shanghai. Not only will it be outdoors, but also it should be a bit faster than in Astana, which is a notably slow court.

Even so, he’s not averse to playing on slow courts because his best surface arguably is clay, which he proved a couple of times this year. This year has been a breakout for the youngster, who has posted a 36-30 record so far.

He’s 16-14 on hard court, which is pretty solid, but he’s not playing much in Asia before, so he will have to get used to it a little bit. The form has been okay lately, but nothing special.

The win condition will come down to how he handles his opponent and the conditions. It could go either way as they’re not that far in level, in my humble opinion.

Tseng Eyeing Upset

Tseng has been playing in Asia for a while now and should be more used to the conditions here. He took part in the Asian Games and made it to the quarterfinal, where he lost to a lower-ranked player.

That was a surprise, but he bounced back rather nicely by outplaying his opponent in the qualifiers. Neither match was easy because he had to play three sets both times. We’ll see if he will feel those matches because they did come in consecutive days, and he won’t have a break between those and this one.

He’s rather young, so he should recover well, but also the wins were significant because he should feel confident ahead of this one. He’s beaten his opponent before, so there is no reason to think he can’t do it again.

He might even get some support from native fans despite coming from Taiwan, which could also help. Either way, expect him to keep the match pretty close.

Shevchenko v Tseng Prediction and Tip

So I think they’re pretty close in level, so I expect neither to really pull ahead easily. In that sense, backing the over makes the most sense.
