Griekspoor v Lajovic Prediction and Tip
Both will be aiming to make personal history in this match.
Griekspoor will be aiming to win his first ever match in this tournament, whilst Lajovic is bidding to make the third round for the first time in his career.
Despite that encouraging win over Wawrinka, Lajovic has no history of success in this tournament, and he is better known as a clay court player. Griekspoor will regard this as a chance to mark his debut in Shanghai with a win.
Tips & Odds*:
- Low Risk Tip: Griekspoor to win: 4/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
- Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with 888Sport)
Tallon Griekspoor v Dusan Lajovic Head to Head
The pair have never played each other before.
This will be the first match between the 27 year old Dutchman, and the Serb, who is six years older.
Griekspoor Twice an ATP Tour Winner This Year
Having been given a first round bye, this will be Griekspoor’s ATP debut in China – he was still playing on the Challenger tour the last time competitive tennis was played in this country.
The Dutch number one has had a successful year, winning his maiden ATP title in Maharashtra, India in January, and following that up with a second on the grass of Rosmalen.
He also reached the final in Washington, but was beaten in straight sets by the British player, Dan Evans.
However, since then, results have not been so impressive and he lost three out of his next four matches, which included first round defeats in Toronto, Cincinnati, and the US Open.
He was hoping to arrest that trend in Astana last week, where he was the top seed, but his progress was halted at the quarter-final stage, beaten by the American Sebastian Korda, who went on to lose in the final to Adrian Mannarino.

Lajovic Wins First Ever Shanghai Match
Like Griekspoor, Lajovic has also won on the tour this year, picking up the third tournament victory of his career on the clay of Banja Luka.
However, unlike his Dutch opponent, he has played in this event before, but, having never been beyond the first round in Shanghai, he would not have been filled with confidence ahead of his first round match with the Swiss veteran Stan Wawrinka, the world number 47.
Despite that, the Serb made a strong start, breaking the Swiss in his opening serve game, and then he underlined that with a further break. Wawrinka recovered one of them, but he could not prevent Lajovic claiming the first set.
The second set was attritional, with Wawrinka twice going a break down only to immediately hit back to level things up again.
The resulting tie-break saw Lajovic have a match point saved, and then Wawrinka miss a set point opportunity.
However, when a second match point came the way of the Serb, he did not pass up the opportunity.
