Sinner v Giron Head to Head
Sinner and Giron have never faced off in a competitive match before this.
Sinner Coming off China Open Title Win
It has been a season to remember for Sinner who enters this tournament on the back of a title win at the China Open.
It’s not just the fact that Sinner clinched an ATP 500 title victory or has rolled into the top four of the ATP Rankings for the first time but the fact that the Italian has clearly been one of the top four best players in the world this season.
And he defeated two of the three players ahead of him on that chart in this tournament to win this title.
In the semifinal, Sinner held on to the wood he has over Carlos Alcaraz to overcome him in straight sets and move into the final. And then in the title-decider, the Italian number one crashed the Daniil Medvedev party – the other top four player in the world right now – to clinch it in two tie-breakers.
He will start off as one of the favourites to go deep into this tournament.

Giron Tames Galan
Daniel Elahi Galan is more known for his performances on clay and a 2-9 record in hardcourt competitions was enough of an indicator that he would struggle against Giron.
Giron ensured that was exactly how things went for him as he notched up a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Galan in this opening round match that lasted a mere 71 minutes. In a match which saw Giron save both of his break-points, he also broke his opponent three times from the three opportunities he got, grabbing an easy win in the process.
This will come as a bit of a relief for Giron, who has fallen to 82nd in the world from his career-best ranking of 49th at one stage not too long ago.
In more recent times, he looks to have found bit of rhythm going for him having reached the second round in Chengdu, Astana and now here in Shanghai. Can he put up a fight against one of the best current players in the world?
