Tsitsipas v Hijikata Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came at the Australian Open earlier this year and Tsitsipas won it in three easy sets.
Tsitsipas in a Bit of Strife
When Tsitsipas made the fourth round at Wimbledon and then went on to win the Los Cabos title immediately after that, it looked like a typical showing from the Greek number one as he prepared to go into the US Open and the rest of the season with confidence.
Things have gone horribly awry for Tsitsipas since.
He was blown away in the Canadian Masters opener by Gael Monfils, then fell to Hubert Hurkacz in the third round of the Cincinnati Masters before Dominic Stricker sent him packing at the US Open.
Even at the Davis Cup he lost one of his two matches to Alex Molcan before succumbing in the very first round of the China Open to Nicolas Jarry.
All in all, that he is still sixth in the world is a bit of a silver lining but he will know he has a lot to do before the end of 2023.

Hijikata Surprises Djere
Hijikata had started showing signs of making things happen when he won a Challenger event but it was at the Rosmalen Open that he really flowered for the first time.
The Aussie made it to the semifinal there and then added a fourth round appearance at the US Open where it was Frances Tiafoe who finally ended his campaign.
Since then, Hijikata has made the final of another Challenger event, and while he was sent packing in the very first round of Zhuhai, he has come back well here.
He has had to come through the qualifiers to make the main draw – which he did easily – and then, starting out a 11/10 underdog in his opener, went past Laslo Djere. It took him two hours and 17 minutes alright but Hijikata was able to clinch a 7-6 (4), 7-5 win.
Can he now test a struggling Tsitsipas here?
