Alejandro Davidovich Fokina v Arthur Fils Head to Head
The pair have met twice before, both matches taking place during Grand Slam tournaments this year.
Davidovich-Fokina won on the clay of Roland-Garros and the grass of Wimbledon.
Davidovich Fokina Has Excellent Masters’ Record
Davidovich-Fokina received a first round bye courtesy of his seeding.
The Spaniard has an excellent record when it comes to Masters’ tournament. In 2021, he was the beaten finalist in Monte Carlo, and he has also made the last eight there.
And this year alone, he reached the semi-finals in Toronto, the quarter-finals in Indian Wells, and the fourth round in Madrid.
He reached the third round of the US Open at the start of last month, and then, began his stay in China in Beijing.
The Spaniard lost in the second round to Alexander Zverev, but not before taking the German to three sets.

Fils Has Come a Long Way in a Short Time
Fils would have still been at school the last time that the ATP tour visited China, but it is a measure of how far the French teenager has come in a short time that he has entered this tournament as a top 50 player.
The winner of the boys’ doubles at the French Open in 2021, and runners-up in singles the same year, it was fitting that it was in Paris that he made his Grand Slam debut earlier this year as a wildcard, although Davidovich-Fokina then ended his interest in the tournament.
He also fell at the first round stage of Wimbledon, but managed one stage further in New York.
His Masters debut came at the Italian Open in Rome, where he reached the second round, a feat he has now emulated in Shanghai.
Playing the world number 103, Pavel Kotov in the first round, Fils breezed through the first set, only conceding one game in the process.
He then raced into a four love lead in the second, until Kotov, belatedly, offered some resistance and recovered one of the breaks. He was unable to prevent the teenager wrapping up the match, though.
