Humbert v Van de Zandschulp Head to Head
This will be a first tour level meeting between the two. Humbert, however won a lower level match in 2017.
Humbert In Decent Form
Ugo Humbert is coming off a solid showing at the China Open in Beijing.
The 25-year-old lefty defeated Lorenzo Sonego and Andrey Rublev to reach the quarterfinal, but was stopped from progressing further by Daniil Medvedev.
Humbert is 22-20 at the tour level and 38-23 across levels. Among the highlights of his season were two Challenger titles in Bordeaux and Cagliari and a runner-up finish in Pau Challenger.
The world no. 34 has not quite had the same impact at the tour level though, finishing as a semifinalist in Atlanta and a quarterfinalist in Washington and Beijing.
He has never played at the Shanghai Masters, and will look to begin his campaign with a win. However, he has a disappointing 13-24 record in ATP 1000 tournaments.

Van de Zandschulp Knocks Out O’Connell
Botic van de Zandschulp held off a resilient Christopher O’Connell in the first round of the Shanghai Masters.
The Dutch player dominated the first set, but was edged out in the tiebreak in the second set. In the final set, O’Connell looked to be cruising to victory after building a 2-4 lead, but Van de Zandschulp rebounded to win the contest 6-2, 6-7 (2-7), 6-4.
Van de Zandschulp servd 10 aces and 35 winners in the match. He saved 2 of 4 break points and converted 5 of 9 to oust the world no. 58.
The Dutchman is 18-20 at the tour level. He was a finalist in Munich earlier this year, but ever since then, Van de Zandschulp has seen a dip in form. Can he make a strong run in Shanghai?
