Fabian Marozsan v Dusan Lajovic Prediction and Tip

Although there is a vast difference between the two men when it comes to the experience of playing in Masters events, both are in unknown territory as far as Shanghai is concerned.

The surface may give the Hungarian a slight edge, but this promises to be a close, and hard fought contest.

Tips & Odds*:

Fabian Marozsan v Dusan Lajovic Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before.

This will be the first match between the 23 year old Hungarian, and the Serb, who is ten years older.

Marozsan Knocks Out 11th Seed

Marozsan is playing in just his second ever Masters event, having reached the fourth round of the Italian Open in May as a qualifier.

Spared such rigours in Shanghai, he had beaten the Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech in the first round, earning him a tie with the Australian Alex de Minaur, the number 11 seed.

He began the match very much the underdog, but belied that status by breaking the Australian in his opening service game.

De Minaur did have an opportunity to get the break back, but was unable to take it, and Marozsan claimed the first set.

More break points came and went for both men in the early part of the second set, but the Hungarian seemed to strike a decisive blow when he broke again, giving him the chance to serve for the match.

To his credit, de Minaur saved himself by breaking back, but any relief he felt was only temporary as he dropped his serve again, this time to love.

Marozsan did not spurn the opportunity and served out.

Lajovic Benefits from Dutch Retirement

One of the older players who had experienced playing in this tournament before, Lajovic still had the novelty of reaching the second round in Shanghai for the first time by beating the Swiss veteran Stan Wawrinka in his opening match.

He might have expected to find it tough going against his next opponent, the number 23 seed, Tallon Griekspoor, because of the Dutchman’s more natural affinity to hard courts.

In the event, though, it was the Serb who struck the first blow, breaking the Griekspoor serve early in the first set.

Other break opportunities came his way, and Griekspoor had one of his own, but, in the event, that break was enough to earn Lajovic the first set.

The first four games of the second set were shared, but then the Dutchman dropped his serve again.

Struggling with an injury, he called for the trainer and then retired, conceding the victory to Lajovic.
