Amanda Anisimova v Astra Sharma Head to Head

This is the first time that the two players are facing each other on the WTA Tour.

Anisimova Closing in on Her First Title

At just 17 years of age, Anisimova has already achieved a lot more than a majority of other players on the tour. Her brilliant tennis, combined with her perseverance, has taken her into the top 100 already. Given the way she is playing right now, it is only a matter of time before she reaches the top 50.

In Bogota, she has had a very good run, starting with victories over Sabine Lisicki and Varvara Lepchenko. After that, she moved past Maria Camila Osorio Serrano and Beatriz Haddad Maia in three sets to reach her first final of the season.

Anisimova has already proven that she is capable of going toe to toe with more renowned players. In the Australian Open this season, she reached the fourth round after upsetting Lesia Tsurenko and Aryna Sabalenka. Similarly, in the Indian Wells last year, she downed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Petra Kvitova.

At the same time, she is still new on the tour and lacks the experience to play with much more finesse. Her brilliant victories this year are also accompanied by her early losses in many big events like Indian Wells Open, Miami Open, and WTA Charleston.

Astra Hoping to Replicate her Doubles Success

Earlier this season, Astra Sharma was the runner-up in the Australian Open mixed doubles, partnered with John-Patrick Smith. Currently ranked as the World No. 138, Sharma hasn’t had that impressive of a year in comparison to Anisimova’s.

With the sole exception of her winning run in the ITF event in Irapuato, Mexico, she never really managed to move past the initial rounds. In Charleston, she started as a qualifier but lost in the first round to Taylor Townsend.

In Bogota, however, things have been a lot better for the young Australian. On Saturday, she won the doubles draw with Zoe Hives, defeating the pair of Hayley Carter and Ena Shibahara in the final. Now, she will be hoping to deliver the same run in the singles half too.

Sharma began her campaign in the tournament with a three-set win over Shelby Rogers and then defeated Magda Linette in the second round. After that, she met the veteran Italian Sara Errani and dispatched her with  6-2, 6-1. In the semis, she defeated Lara Arruabarrena in straight sets, thus reaching her first singles final on the tour.

Anisimova v Sharma Predictions & Tips

This is an evenly matched fixture that can very well go either way. While Anisimova is young and full of energy, Sharma is sailing high on confidence on the back of her recent doubles success this season. Both the players will fancy their chances here but given the way Anisimova has been this season, the odds are in her favour.

Tip: Anisimova to win: 4/9 (Bet365)
