Kyle Edmund v Diego Schwartzman Head to Head

This will be the fourth meeting between Edmund and Schwartzman and the Brit holds a 2-1 advantage over his opponent. That said, they have never played on clay before this with Edmund having won in Vienna last year after Schwartzman had defeated him at the Toronto Masters in the same season. Their only other outing came at a Challenger in 2015.

Edmund’s Had His Times on Clay

It was 2013 when Edmund must have shocked a lot of fans with his performances on clay that season. He won 43 of the 56 matches he played on the surface, and while most of them came on the Futures circuit, it underlined how Edmund might not find it too difficult to play on red dirt despite it traditionally not been the most favourite one for British players.

Since then, Edmund has always maintained a positive win-loss record on clay, including a 12-6 last season when he made it all the way up to the final at Marrakech, quarter-finals at the Madrid Masters and the third round at the French Open.

Question is whether it would get any easier against the 26-year-old Argentine, whose favourite surface is clay as evidenced by his recent record…

Schwartzman Not Going to Make it Easy

…speaking of recent records, Schwartzman has already played in two tournaments on clay which include the Cordoba Open and the Buenos Aires Open, and he was the finalist at the latter in his own country, losing to Marco Cecchinato.

He won one ATP title last year which came on the clay of Rio, one in Istanbul in 2016 which was again on clay and a Challenger Tour Finals in 2014 on that very surface. With a 17-9 win-loss record on clay last season, and 13-19 on other surfaces, it suffices to say that the Argentine loves this and won’t be a pushover going into this match at the Monte-Carlo Masters.

And that’s despite his 2-3 win-loss record over the last three tournaments he’s featured in this season at Acapulco, Indian Wells and Miami.

Edmund v Schwartzman Predictions & Tips

This won’t be an easy one for the 17th-seeded Edmund despite bookmakers pegging him as odds on to win this at 4/7. Schwartzman can be expected to run him close on clay and we could be looking at three-setter in this one.

Tip: Three-setter in this match: 11/8 (Betway)
