Caroline Wozniacki v Alize Cornet Head to Head
In the eight times the two players have met so far, Wozniacki has emerged victorious on seven of those. The Dane has built a 7-1 lead over Cornet since 2007, with their last meeting taking place in the 2016 WTA Eastbourne.
Wozniacki’s Tryst with Injuries
Wozniacki started this season inside the top 10 as the World No. 3 but owing to a series of injuries and illness, she is ranked at the 13th place.
Her Australian Open Series wasn’t that exciting with early exits in Auckland and Melbourne. She sat out the Middle East swing owing to her illness and returned only in Indian Wells. There, she was handed a shocking second-round defeat at the hands of Ekaterina Alexandrova.
In Miami, Wozniacki made it to the fourth round but then, lost to Su-Wei Hsieh. However, she started her clay season on a much stronger note. In Charleston, she made it all the way to the final where she lost to Madison Keys in three gruelling sets.
That was also her first final on the tour since the China Open last year.
Can Cornet Start her Clay Run with a Win?
Alize Cornet has got a tough job ahead of her. She needs to overcome a player she has managed to defeat only once – more than 12 years ago in the US Open.
Given her season so far, the odds are certainly stacked against her. While she started the year with a semifinal run in Hobart, her form has gradually dropped since then as she moved on to lose early in Melbourne, St. Petersburg, and Dubai. She last played in the Miami Open where she lost to Karolina Pliskova in the third round.
At the same time, Cornet has six titles to her of which, she has won four on clay. Her last title was the Swiss Open in 2018. Against Wozniacki, she can certainly seek inspiration from other underdogs who have defeated her over the course of this season.
Wozniacki v Cornet Predictions & Tips
Given that Wozniacki is certainly looking more and more confident of late, this should end in an easy win for her. At the very most, Cornet can put up some resistance but the Dane should be able to get past that with ease.
Tip: Under 20.5 games in the match: 4/5 (888Sport)
