The players have never met on the ATP circuit yet.

Khachanov Looking For Return To Form

Branded as one of the players to watch out for among the upcoming next generation (Next Gen), Khachanov had a breakthrough 2018. The Russian ended the year ranked at number 11 in the ATP rankings and winning his first ATP 1000 Masters beating Novak Djokovic in the final. Khachanov has a powerful all round game and does not hesitate to come up to the net. The beginning of this year promised to be a continuation of the Khachanov of 2018.

The 2019 season has not been as kind to Khachanov as the previous year and the Russian has had many a disappointing loss this year. Early dismissals at the Australian Open, the ATP Masters 1000 on hard court and a continuing trend on clay and lesser known tournaments has been the story of Khachanov’s year thus far.

The Russian has not managed to get into any sort of rhythm or gain momentum this season, and will be hoping for more consistency and confidence, going into the busy tennis summer.

Although Khachanov is more dangerous and acquainted with the faster surfaces given his naturally powerful and attacking game, it is imperative for him to get his confidence and form back, as he would like to a avoid a further dip in both going into the second half of the year.

Munar Looking to Continue Recent Form

Spanish 21-year-old Jaume Munar has gone from strength to strength in the last year. Having had success on the junior tour, he came to the limelight with a win over veteran David Ferrer at the 2018 French Open in the first round. The young Spaniard continued to show promise through 2018, including at the 2018 ATP Next Gen finals in Milan.

2019 has been a promising year for him with four quarter final appearances at different ATP 250 tournaments. Munar showed promise on the South American clay and has been spoken of highly by Rafael Nadal as well.

With a game that has been built on idolizing Nadal, Munar has good court coverage and is strong off the baseline, alongside being gritty in his approach.

The young Spaniard will be looking for continued confidence- boosting success throughout the 2019 clay season.

Khachanov v Munar Predictions & Tips

While Khachanov starts as the favorite on paper, this match could be a lot closer than it appears. Khachanov has been in dismal form all season and does not have the most suited game to the clay. On the other hand, Munar is a natural on the surface as well as increasing in confidence over time. We can expect a tight match on the cards, going three sets with the Spaniard riding high on confidence and edging out the more seasoned Russian.
