Fabio Fognini v Radu Albot Head to Head

This will be the third match between these two players with both having once apiece. In their first match at Beijing in 2018, Fognini had needed three sets to win the encounter but Albot won their most recent match in Indian Wells earlier this year in straight sets. Obviously that match was on hard courts and this one will be on clay…

…Where Fabio Fognini Has Already Won a Masters This Season

It was a shock win earlier this season when the Italian went on to win the Monte-Carlo Masters, something that was very well-deserved given he defeated Rafael Nadal in the semi-final.

Interestingly, other than that Monte-Carlo win, Fognini has been struggling, having won just six of his 15 matches played so far. It also includes wins in the first two rounds of the Madrid Masters before he went down to Dominic Thiem and a first round victory at Rome here against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

What that shows is that Fognini had entered that Monte-Carlo Masters competition with a streak of really form that he looked to turned. Albot shouldn’t give him too many issues.

Can Radu Albot Turn his Already-Brilliant Year Even Better?

For someone who hasn’t played a single Challenger competition this year, Albot’s win-loss record this year has been 20-9, a more than a decent showing for a player outside the top 40. His current ranking of 44 in the world is Albot’s best ever and it comes as no surprise given his title win at Delray Beach and semi-final at Montpellier.

Albot has had a few underwhelming tournaments coming into this one. Second round losses at Monte-Carlo and Budapest and an opening loss at Madrid underlines the sudden loss of consistency for Albot and his form looks a tad dodgy going into this competition.

With a record of 23-26 in the past two years on clay, things could get really tough for him against Fognini.

Fognini v Albot Predictions & Tips

Unless Fognini is injured or lost interest for reasons unknown, this should not be just a win but in straight sets too.

Tip: Fognini to win in straight sets: 8/11 (888Sport)
