Novak Djokovic v Denis Shapovalov Head to Head
Djokovic has won their only previous head to head clash on his way to the Australian Open title, earlier this January. The final score was 6-3, 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 in favour of the Serb and despite winning a set Shapovalov was being outplayed throughout that match.
This match could bring us an even easier win for Djokovic as he has 6-1 win-loss on clay since this year started while Shapovalov has only 1-3 and the young Canadian is far from the level of Djokovic, especially on this surface.
Djokovic Chasing Consecutive Masters Titles
Djokovic looked amazing last week in Madrid, managing to win all four matches there in straight sets and being on top of his game in the semifinals and finals, where he showed Thiem and Tsitsipas that he is still a much better player than them.
He has stated numerous times that his main goal for the year is to win the Roland Garros title and he has a great chance of doing it as Nadal has lost three matches on clay in 2019 already, after losing just two in 2017 and 2018 combined.
This tournament’s draw has opened up for Djokovic as Zverev, Medvedev and Monfils have already exited the tournament in the opening two rounds so his way to the finals is much easier than expected.
Shapovalov Not Playing Good On Clay This Season
Denis Shapovalov got his first clay win of 2019 in the opening round of this tournament against Pablo Carreno-Busta. It was a 6-3, 7-6 win for him and that win was expected by most as Carreno-Busta paused 10 weeks from February to April and has lost all five matches since his comeback, including that one against Shapovalov on Monday.
His overall level of tennis on clay hasn’t been that good and I don’t think that his style of play can bring him much success going forward unless he adds more weapons to his arsenal.
Djokovic v Shapovalov Predictions & Tips
Djokovic is unbeatable in his current form and I don’t think that he will lose more than two or three games per set against Shapovalov today.
