This will be their 20th head to head match and the Serb has absolutely dominated their previous 19, having 15 wins and only four losses so far.

This could be the best year for Novak since 2016 which he finished with 65/10. His record at the moment is 23/4, with titles at the Australian Open and Madrid Masters last week, and not many points to defend until Wimbledon (lost in the Roland Garros quarterfinals last year).
Djokovic played both of his matches in this tournament yesterday, beating Shapovalov 6-1, 6-3 in 68 minutes and Kohlschreiber 6-3, 6-0 in just 64 minutes.
After two such dominant wins against such good opposition, it is safe to say that Novak is well rested after lifting the trophy in Madrid on Sunday evening and the rain was definitely on his this week in Rome.
Del Potro Playing Only His Seventh Match Of Year
Del Potro had a knee injury last October, which he re-aggravated after just three played matches in this year so he’ll have his seventh match of 2019 here.
He surprised a lot of people by defeating Goffin yesterday 6-4, 6-2 in only 79 minutes and after that Ruud 6-4, 6-4 in a bit over 90 minutes, as those were his second and third matches on clay this year.
Fatigue might catch up to him today as he played for almost three hours while Djokovic played only two + Del Po is still returning from that injury.
