Karolina Pliskova v Madison Brengle Head to Head
In the three times that the two players have met on the WTA Tour, Pliskova has won on all occasions. They met as recently as the Australian Open this year, where the Czech won in three sets.
Pliskova on Fire
Pliskova, who recently became World No. 2, is heading into this match as a favourite in Paris. She is also in contention for the No. 1 crown and for that, she needs to reach the final.
Just last week, the Czech won one of the biggest titles of her career – the Italian Open, after upsetting Johanna Konta in the final. She looked pretty flawless throughout the tournament and that boost will definitely help her perform well here.
It is quite interesting to see this massive turnaround in the form on the clay from the current WTA Tokyo champion. She struggled in Stuttgart and Madrid, falling respectively to Victoria Azarenka and Dayana Yastremska in the second round.
However, considering her season, on the whole, she has been very impressive. She won the title in Brisbane and later reached the semifinal in Melbourne and the quarterfinal in Dubai and Indian Wells. Pliskova was also the runner-up in Miami, succumbing ultimately to Ashleigh Barty.
Brengle, Seeking her First WTA win since March
The 29-year-old Brengle, who is currently World No. 97, hasn’t won a main draw match on the WTA Tour since the Indian Wells.
Following her defeat to Anastasija Sevastova in the second round, she lost early in Miami and Charleston. Then, Brengle switched to the ITF circuit where she had a rather uneventful run. She reached the final in Charlottesville but failed to replicate that performance in ITF Charleston and Bonita Springs.
Brengle isn’t among the most discernible players on the tour and it is hard to imagine her going far in Paris. Since 2007, she has made it past the first round only once.
