Johanna Konta v Lauren Davis Head to Head
In the three times the two ladies have met on the WTA Tour, Konta has won on two instances. Their last meeting, however, took place more than six years ago in Ningbo, China. The British star won the match in three sets.
Konta in with a Positive Start
Following her brilliant run in the Italian Open where she reached the final, Konta has started her campaign in the French Open on a similar note.
She faced Antonia Lottner of Germany in the first round and dispatched her in an hour and 20 minutes. World No. 26 won the match 6-4, 6-4, with a first-service win-rate of 70% and five break points. Moreover, Konta committed only 13 unforced errors.
This win marks the first time that Konta has made it past the first round in the Roland Garros in her career.
That performance in Rome, where she defeated Sloane Stephens, Venus Williams, and Kiki Bertens, was her second such feat of the season. She reached the final in Rabat as well, only to lose to Maria Sakkari. With these runs, Konta is now among the most clinical players on the clay turf and she will certainly fancy her chances here in Paris.
Davis, Known for her Clay-Court Abilities
Lauren Davis, despite being ranked in the early 100s, is not a player to be taken lightly. She was the runner-up in the ITF event in Dothan and most recently, won the inaugural edition of ITF Bonita Springs. It was this win that bought her the ticket to the main draw in Paris as a wildcard.
On the WTA Tour, however, Davis hasn’t really made a name for herself yet. Most of the times, she has lost in the early rounds itself.
In Paris, she started her journey with a straight-set win over Kristyna Pliskova. The match lasted for just a little over an hour and saw the American win 80% of her first service points with just 13 unforced errors.
Konta v Davis Predictions & Tips
By all means, Konta should win this match comfortably and reach the third round. However, in the past too, Konta has started as the favourite, but only to lose. This time around, things are different, given her clinical form on the clay.
As for Davis, she prefers this surface and it is where she thrives. She will make things a bit problematic for her British adversary. All in all, a good match to follow.
