Juan-Martin Del Potro v Yoshihito Nishioka Head to Head
This will be the second meeting between these players, with the first one taking place on 20th February in Delray Beach, when del Potro won 6-3, 7-5 in his first match of the year after pausing since last October because of a knee injury.
The Argentinean paused for 10 additional weeks after exiting that tournament in the quarterfinals but is in much better from now, after being healthy and playing some solid tennis on clay in the previous few weeks (wins against Goffin, Ruud and Jarry, took Djokovic three hour to defeat him).

After a great run Del Potro had in Paris last year, when he managed to beat Mahut, Benneteau, Ramos-Vinolas, Isner and Cilic, only to lose to Nadal in the semis, everyone is expecting him to get at least into the quarterfinals this time (where he will probably face Djokovic).
He was always much better on the faster surfaces but always played pretty good tennis on clay as well. Del Po has a 163-72 record on dirt and four ATP titles on it (none after 2012th).
His three-hour marathon against Djokovic in the Rome Masters quarterfinals two weeks ago showed that he is 100% fit and ready to play top-level tennis once again, after those boring knee injuries he had.
First Time Nishioka Made It Past The Opening Round Of Roland Garros
Nishioka needed five sets and over three hours to beat McDonald in the first round. That is certainly an improvement after his first round exit last year when he lost in five sets to Verdasco after four and a half hours and failing to serve out the match when being 5-3 up in the final set.
This second round appearance will move Nishioka six places up in the rankings and put him in the 66th spot, a great position for him to be in ahead of the grass and hard court tournaments which are coming in the second part of the year and where the Japanese player should be even better.

With del Potro finally being back to full health and hungry for wins I don’t see him dropping even a set to Nishioka, who just lacks power in his shots and experience to compete with the Argentinean superstar.
