Marketa Vondrousova v Anastasija Sevastova Head to Head
This is the first meeting between the two players on the WTA Tour.
Vondrousova – the Dark Horse in Paris
Vondrousova is a player who is currently World No. 38 but to much surprise, she holds a win-loss record of 22-6 this season. Currently enjoying her career-best singles ranking, the youngster has reached two finals this season – WTA Budapest and the clay event in Istanbul. She also reached the quarterfinal in Indian Wells, Miami, and Rome.
It gets more impressive when we realize that she has already defeated Simona Halep twice this season, and has made it to the quarterfinal in every event since the Australian Open.
She has had a pretty flawless run in Paris so far and is yet to drop a set. She defeated Yafan Wang and Anastasia Potapova after which, she edged past the veteran Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro.
Sevastova, Looking to Reinvent Herself
Anastasija Sevastova, who rose to prominence when she reached the final in the China Open last year, hasn’t had that great of a run, on the whole, this season.
Looking to find her groove in Paris, she mostly incurred a series of early losses in many competitions. For instance, Sevastova lost in the third round in Indian Wells, Miami, Stuttgart, and most recently, Madrid. But then, she also lost in the first round in the Italian Open and WTA Prague.
She has been fairly impressive in Paris, starting with a clinical win over Lupsika Kumkhum. Then, she repeated a similar win over Mandy Minella. Against Elise Mertens, however, Sevastova ran into some complications but won the match 6-7(7), 6-4, 11-9, in a match that lasted for over three hours.
It saw the Latvian compete fiercely and relentlessly while playing some of the best tennis in a fairly long time.
Vondrousova v Sevastova Predictions & Tips
Sevastova is proving her mettle in Paris and will not make things easy for her Czech adversary at any cost. This is one match where Vondrousova will be pushed but given her recent form, she should be able to fend off the danger.
Expect the young Czech to win this one in three sets.
