Ashleigh Barty v Amanda Anisimova Head to Head

Barty and Anisimova have never met before on the WTA Tour.

Anisimova, Making her Way with Elegance

Anisimova may still be a teenager but she has most definitely achieved a lot more than most of the pro players currently playing on the tour. She won her first ITF title when she was just 15 and now, two years, later, she is competing in the semifinal of the French Open.

Last year, she reached her first singles final on the tour in the WTA Hiroshima, losing eventually to Su-Wei Hsieh in the final. This season, she finally went the distance and won her first singles trophy in Bogota.

Anisimova has had her fair share of defeats too, which is understandable given that she is still learning the ropes. She had a series of early losses in Indian Wells, Miami, Madrid and Rome. But at the same time, over the course of her career already, she has registered impressive wins over the likes of Aryna Sabalenka, Simona Halep, Petra Kvitova, and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

In Paris, she has surprised a lot of people, including herself on the back of an incredible run. Being one of the youngest in the field, she started as the underdog in a pretty tricky bracket but soon transformed into the dark horse.

She made it to the semi without losing a single set, moving past the likes of Sabalenka, Harmony Tan, Irina-Camelia Begu, and Aliona Bolsova. In the quarterfinal, she delivered the biggest upset of the season by knocking out the defending champion Halep with 6-2, 6-4. It was a match that later saw Anisimova mention it as the best tennis of her life.

Over the course of the last fortnight in Paris, Anisimova has looked pretty much at home and in her element. She is a force to be reckoned with and can very well put up a demanding fight here.

Yet Another Semifinal for Barty

2019 has been the best year for the 23-year-old Barty, who cracked the top 10 and also won the biggest title of her career – the Miami Open.

She was also a quarterfinalist in the Australian Open and Madrid, and the runner-up in WTA Sydney. In these events, she has defeated the likes of Maria Sharapova, Maria Sakkari, Kiki Bertens, Halep, Petra Kvitova, and Karolina Pliskova.

Barty continued the same form in Paris, moving past Jessica Pegula, Danielle Collins, and Andrea Petkovic in straight sets. As the number 8 seed, she enjoyed a relatively simple draw. She didn’t face a lot of difficulties until she reached the fourth round.

She defeated Sofia Kenin in three sets with some work but then, it was business as usual for the young Aussie. In the quarterfinal, she knocked out Madison Keys of America to reach the semis.

From tennis to cricket and back to tennis, Barty has had an interesting journey that led her to this stage in the Roland Garros.

Amanda Anisimova v Ashleigh Barty Prediction and Tips

Anisimova is competing in her second French Open and yet, she has already proven her worth by making it this far. Experience is clearly not a deciding factor here for the young American. As for Barty, she too has enjoyed her fair share of success this year and has upset some big names in the process.

Both the players are coming in this on the back of a similar form. While the Aussie will start as the favourite, my gut says Anisimova will reach the final.

Tip: Over 19.5 games in the match. (888Sport).
