Richard Gasquet v Aljaz Bedene Head to Head

The two men have played each other once before, significantly on grass in the first round of Wimbledon last year, with Gasquet winning easily in straight sets.

Gasquet, Defending Champion Looking to Do Well Again

Last year’s triumph when he defeated compatriot Jeremy Chardy in the final was the 15th, and, to date, last ATP senior singles title of a career that started as far back as 2002.

He does not come into the event in good form, having had a largely disappointing European clay season. Last time out he was beaten by Argentine Juan Ignacio Londero in the second stage of the French Open, the same stage that he reached in Lyon and Madrid, whilst he was beaten in the first round in Rome, where Chardy got his revenge for that defeat in s-Hertogenbosch last year.

Yet grass is a different surface than those tournaments and suits his game, as can be seen from the fact that he has twice got to the semi-finals in Wimbledon.

Bedene Has Little Form on Grass

World number 95 Bedene has never won a grass court title, and has not even contested a final on the surface. And, as a yardstick, the fact that he has never got beyond the second round at Wimbledon tells its own story.

Arguably, he comes into the tournament in an even poorer vein of form than Gasquet. Beaten in the first round in his last two events, his best recent performance came in Budapest, where he reached the second round.

Gasquet v Bedene Predictions & Tips

Gasquet is the clear odds-on favourite to win at 18/35, whilst Bedene is priced at 9/5. Whilst Gasquet has not been in the best of form of late, a return to grass suits his game, and he is likely to have far too much for Bedene to be able to handle.

Tip: Gasquet to win in two sets: 1/1 (888Sport)
