Ashleigh Barty v Julia Goerges Head to Head

The two ladies are evenly tied at 1-1 at the moment, with their last meeting taking place in the 2018 WTA Elite Trophy. Barty won that match in three sets.

Barty Continues to Soar

The 23-year-old Aussie at the start of 2019 was World No. 15. In the last six months, she has covered a lot of ground and brought herself within one win of reaching the top of the singles ranking.

Following what has been a sensational performance in the French Open, Barty extended her winning streak to 11 matches in Birmingham. It is quite commendable that she managed to retain her form despite a switch in the surfaces.

The cricketer-turned-tennis-professional made it to the final without dropping a single set. On the way, she moved past Donna Vekic, Jennifer Brady, Venus Williams, and Barbora Strycova. This marks one of the many instances where Barty pulled such a stunning feat.

Earlier this year, she won the Miami Open and prior to that, reached the final in the WTA Sydney. She also made it to the quarterfinal on a few other occasions. This kind of consistency is the reason why the young Aussie is on the verge of becoming No. 1.

She also broke a few records in Paris by becoming the first Australian since Margaret Court in 1973 to win the French Open. If she wins the final in Birmingham, she will become the first Aussie since Evonne Goolagong Cawley to hold the No. 1 singles ranking in over four decades.

Goerges Finds her Footing on Grass

The German started the year by winning the Auckland Open but she failed to carry that form forward. She delivered a series of mediocre performances which got worse with time. On clay, she won just one match in the five tournaments she played in.

But obviously, the change of surface has benefited Goerges greatly. She has made it to her first grass final since the 2017 Mallorca Open. Furthermore, this marks her first big final since the Charleston Open last season.

Goerges had an interesting run as she defeated the likes of Dayana Yastremska, Evgeniya Rodia, Yulia Putintseva, and Petra Martic. That is, by no means, an easy feat as evident from the couple of three-setters the number eight seed had to endure in Birmingham.

Barty v Goerges Predictions & Tips

Barty is like a steamroller, storming past everything in her way to becoming World No. 1. Interestingly, Goerges is among the few players who can put a halt to that dazzling run. She has a decent record any many top and experienced players. She is a player who can, at the very least, give Barty a fight for her money.

Tip: Over 16.5 games in the match. (888Sport)
