Roger Federer v David Goffin Head to Head
The two players have met eight times on the ATP circuit eight times with Federer leading the head-to-head 7-1. Goffin and Federer have been friends and hitting partners and Goffin has idolized Federer for most of his career. The matchup has been one sided in favor of the Swiss, barring the loss against Goffin in the semi-finals of the ATP Tour finals in London in 2017.
Federer One Step Away From Halle #10
Roger Federer is in search of his 10th title at Halle, aiming to only become the second player after Rafael Nadal to win any tournament ten times or more. After a challenging initial run here at Halle this week, the Swiss looked sublime in his semi-finals against Pierre-Hugues Herbet wining comfortably in straight sets 6-3,6-3.
Federer improved his all-time record at Halle to 67-7 with this win to make his 13th finals appearance here at Halle. Federer has had a promising year thus far, with victories at the Dubai Open (ATP 500) and Miami Open (ATP 1000), as well as encouraging performances on clay after a three year break from the surface.
The Swiss maestro did not look his best on his favorite surface earlier this week, and some of it could be alluded to the adjustment from clay, where he played the French Open and two ATP Masters 1000, after a break from clay for close to three years. However, he has looked more assured in the last two matches and will be looking to take this form into the final.
Federer plays Belgian David Goffin in the final in search of another Halle title.
Resurgent Goffin Looking at a First Grass Title
David Goffin was ranked 7th in the world after being a finalist at the ATP year end finals in London in 2017, a tournament where he beat both Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
The last year and a half or so for Goffin has been a mix of recurring injuries, time off from the game and disappointing early losses at tournaments, resulting in him being ranked number 30 at the moment.
The Belgian is an offensive baseliner with strong groundstrokes off both wings, a good return of serve and a solid double handed backhand. He has also reached the round of 16 or better at all four majors.
Goffin is in the process of resurging his career post injuries in search of more consistent results. The Belgian has had a good week with some confidence boosting wins, most importantly against Alexander Zverev in the quarter-finals in a tight three setter.
Federer v Goffin Predictions & Tips
Goffin is a counter-puncher who can push the Swiss and will be determined to, given his attempt to reappear on the circuit as a contender. But, it is a final at Halle, on grass, against Roger Federer in good form. Expect Federer to win in straight sets.
Tip: Federer to win in straight sets: 4/6 (888Sport)
